The "Mother of all Battles"

On March 15th, 2011 nationwide demonstrations began in the Syrian Arab Republic. Riding the wave of the Arab Spring, that brought change in North African countries, Syrian people took to the streets demanding the resignation of President Bashar al Assad and an end to the Ba'ath Party rule that began in 1963. The disproportionate reaction of the Syrian government towards the demonstrators forced an initially peaceful movement to evolve into an armed rebellion composed by defected soldiers and civilian volunteers. On July 19th, 2012 - after almost six months of fighting on the countryside - rebel forces entered the city of Aleppo signifying the beginning of what they named "The mother of all battles".
