Wrath of Euphrates

Spearheaded by the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and code named after the Euphrates river, that flows into Syria from its northern border with Turkey and winds towards the south-east of the country before entering Iraq, the operation to isolate and retake Raqqa - the capital of the Islamic State in Syria - was launched on 6 November 2016.
